The DVLA have launched a new online account for motorists on ,the 2nd of August 2023.

The new online service, allows motorists to view their driving licence and vehicle details in one place.

Motorists, can opt for a digital tax reminder, instead of waiting for a paper reminder to come through the post.

This DVLA new service, has been launched as a public beta, allowing motorists to access their information in one place.

They are asking motorists to give feedback, in order for the DVLA to help develop this new service.

DVLA will be adding more features to the new service.

How to sign up

DVLA New Service

This new DVLA service is easy to use and very secure.

It only takes approximately, 5 minutes to sign up.

You need to provide your personal details, including full name, date of birth and address.

To verify your identity, you are required to use a UK passport (including ones that expired within the last 12 months).

Furthermore, you are required to provide a GB driving licence, or National Insurance number.

Once you are all signed up, motorists can sign in using their username and password.

This service is a free service.

To sign up ,you can got to the gov.uk website.

What will I be able to see once I have signed up?

DVLA Online Service

Once you have signed up, you will be able to;

  • view your driving licence information. This includes any endorsements and penalty points
  • View vehicles that are registered to you, including Tax and MOT status
  • The option of changing your contact preferences
  • An option to set up your vehicle tax reminders, via email and SMS text
  • The option to stop getting tax reminders by post

What are the conditions of using this service?

UK driving Licence

This new service, is only available to GB driving licence holders and doesn’t extend to Northern Ireland.

This is because DVA Northern Ireland, are responsible for Northern Ireland driving licence holders, and the DVLA doesn’t hold these records.

If you chose to tax your vehicle by Direct Debit, then there is no need to sign up to receive a digital V11 reminder. This is because your direct debit will renew automatically, as long as the vehicle has a valid MOT.
