Tesla has released a new V4 Electric Vehicle supercharger for all Electric Vehicles, which is in the showroom in Tottenham.

This V4 supercharger, can be used by anyone and boasts a contactless card payment reader.

The new supercharger, has been designed by Tesla to cater for all electric vehicles, not like the previous versions.

It has been said, that more chargers like this are expected to be in the UK, by the end of this year.

The Tesla V4 superchargers, are already in countries like; Germany and the Netherlands.

If you are an Electric Vehicle owner, with a CCS charging port, then this will be available for you to use.

What’s the difference between normal chargers to the V4 superchargers?

V3 and V4 Chargers

There are a few differences, between the old versions and this new one.

The V4 charging units, are fitted with much longer cables.

They are also fitted with; a screen and a contactless payment reader. 

Tesla, have also ensured that the new supercharger is in-line with new Government regulations, which is a design to make EV charging easier. As well as. displaying the price of charging in pence per kilowatt-hour. Along with drivers being able to pay via a QR code in the Tesla app, or simply paying contactless with their credit or debit card.

The new V4 charger has outputs of up to 250kW, which is the same as the outgoing of the V3 model. Meaning that it can charge for example; a Model Y Tesla, from 0-80 per cent, in under 30 minutes.

How to charge your EV with the new V4 Tesla Charger

If you own a Tesla, the V4 supercharger will read your car automatically once you plugin the connector.

However, if you don’t own a Tesla and you want to use the V4 Tesla supercharger, then these are the steps to take;

  1. Plugin the connector
  2. On the app, select your charger number that is shown on the supercharger unit and press “get started”
  3. Enter your card details, click OK and your EV will start charging (connecting can take up to 2 minutes)
  4. Once charging is complete, click “stop charging” and the session will end

It is as simple as that!

What is the cost?

Contactless Tesla V4 Supercharger

If your not a Tesla owner, then you can sign up to a Tesla membership scheme, for approximately £11 a month.

Where as, if you are a Tesla owner, then you will automatically have access to the lowest Supercharging prices per kWh.

Non Tesla owners do have the option to charge their vehicle without subscribing. However, the cost per kWh is more costly and each charging station can vary in cost too.

The Tesla V4 superchargers, have their prices set from 50p per kWh.
