The motor industry is growing by the day and more MOT testers and technicians are needed. MOT testers and technicians are responsible for carrying out vehicle inspections, repairs, and maintenance on vehicles. An MOT tester must ensure that vehicles are inspected according to ministry standards.
Did you know that, an MOT tester is required to have MOT annual training and assessment. To stay qualified you will need to complete your MOT tester training and annual assessments some time between, April the 1st and the 31st of March in the following year. Despite being able to choose when you complete the training and assessment, as a vehicle tester you are responsible for Planning and carrying out your own training. You are also responsible for recording your training and keeping evidence, that proves you completed it. The MOT Tester is also required to make the booking and then take the annual assessment.
Responsibilities and duties of an MOT Tester
Your responsibilities and duties as an MOT Tester are;
⦁ Carrying out the MOT tests to a high standard.
⦁ Reporting the results to the office staff, to enable them to provide the repair estimates for the customer.
⦁ Ensuring that the MOT bays are clean and in good working order.
⦁ Ensuring that the management records are kept up to date for calibrations, quality and control.
The Key Skills, Experience and Requirements
As an MOT Tester, you are required to hold a full UK driving licence for the vehicle classes you want to test. You must be a skilled mechanic, with at least 4 years full-time employment servicing and repairing the types of vehicles you are going to test. A level 3 qualification is also required.

Annual Assessment Training – The Annual MOT Training Course is 3 hours in total. In the course the 3 main topics set out by DVSA will be covered. The individuals will then sit a test of 30 multiple-choice questions and this usually takes around 35 minutes.
