It is a well-known fact, that small Electric Vehicles are typically used for shorter journeys or as a second car. However, the small Electric Vehicles aren’t as reliant on a long legged range as larger models.
 

It is true that the smaller the vehicle is, the less space it has for the batteries. Which means that the range of the following cars will never match the potential of larger Electric Vehicles. However, in saying that, a small battery also means a lower asking price, especially now that the Government has completely scrapped its Plug-in Car Grant.
 

The Best Small EV’s

1. Peugeot e-208

Peugeot 208 is one of the most appealing small cars there is, thanks to its mix of usable range, performance, value and sporty style. 

The Peugeot 208 has a rich interior design, as well as its stylish bodywork.

This EV has a 3D I-cockpit, with a large 10″ touchscreen and a 7″ piano toggle switches. It also has, the availability for you to personalise your environment with a choice of 8 RGB LED colours.

It has a range of up to 225 miles, so if you’re shopping for your first electric car this year, then maybe this is the make and model for you.
 

2. Fiat 500 Electric

Fiat’s model range is now a little bit confusing, because the old fiat 500 was a Fiat 500 Hybrid (a mild hybrid).

However, the new electric 500, looks similar, but if you see them side by side, you will see that the new electric 500 is completely new.

This new Fiat has a reasonably sized (for a small car) 87kWh battery, with a range of up to 199 miles.

There is available a cheaper model, which is the Fiat 500 Action. This model has a 24kWh battery pack, which is a lot smaller than the Fiat 500 electric.

It has been said by many that, the electric Fiat drives substantially better than any other 500’s.

The interior design of the new Fiat 500 electric, is a huge improvement over previous 500’s. The Prices start at just over £20,000, however, it is worthwhile spending a little bit more and upgrade to the larger battery models.

 

3. Vauxhall Corsa-e

The stylish new Vauxhall Corsa-e is definitely worth having a look at. It has a 180-mile everyday battery range.

Not only does this Vauxhall have a good range, but it also has a100kW DC rapid charging compatibility as standard. Which is even more of a reason to consider this EV. 

Moreover, Vauxhall offer purchase incentives for a free home charger installation and also access to a special home energy tariff.
 

4. Mini Electric

The Mini Electric performance, is a lot stronger than many of the cars you might compare it with in this list.

This 3 door Mini has a range of up to 145 miles, but this does depend on how the vehicle is driven.

The prices for this EV start from around £27,000.

Mini offer three trim levels for customers to choose from:
Level 1 – 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, sat-nav and cruise control.
Level 2 – trim adds 17-inch alloys, heated seats and a rear view camera.
Level 3 – a panoramic glass sunroof, a head-up display function and an upgraded Harman Kardon audio system.
 

5. BMW i3s

This new BMW model is now pure-electric. It has an official range of 188 miles.

BMW also offer different upgrades. This is so that the customers have the opportunity to upgrade.

This EV has an upmarket interior and is very stylish. Due to the size, it is only a four-seater, with a small boot. However, there is still enough space to stretch your legs.

6. Honda E

Honda has taken a new approach with its first fully electric car. 

The Honda E is available in 134bhp and 152bhp forms, but unfortunately, it doesn’t have quite the battery capacity as other rivals.

It has a 35.5kWh gross, which has a range of 137 miles maximum.

This sporty looking EV has a very modern interior and spacious.
 

 7. Mazda MX-30

The Mazda MX-30 has a toy-car look and has an unusually small battery pack of just 35.5kWh.

The official range of this Mazda is 124 miles. The small battery pack is because Mazda believes that owners won’t need any more range, and increasing the battery size would mean unnecessary cost.

Mazda also offer an interior upgrade option for customers. 

 

8. Renault Zoe

The Renault Zoe has a 52kWh battery and can cover up to 239 miles.

The price range for this EV starts at £31,995, even without that Government’s discontinued grant, this vehicle is still good value for money. Furthermore, now you no longer need to lease the battery from Renault.

The Renault Zoe interior is substantially improved from the last generation.

9. MG5

MG5

The MG5 isn’t a small vehicle, but when you consider it has a starting price of £29,695, it undercuts some of the supermini entries on the list.

This EV has a range of 250 mile range, with a 50kW charging means the battery can be replenished from 10-80% in over an hour.

This EV is a low running cost vehicle with plenty of space and with a boot that has a generous 1456-litre capacity.


10. Smart EQ Fortwo

Smart EQ Fortwo has an 80-mile WLTP range, which turns into more like 65 miles if you go out of town.

This EV is only a two-seater and has a small boot. However, it can easily commute around the town, with the advantage of being able to park in small parking spaces.

The price for one of these EV’s is nearly £25,000, and may seem to be a bit steep considering the size.
