The MOT Manager’s course is now a requirement for all MOT stations.

This means that one MOT Manager or a designated Manager, must be on site at all times in MOT stations.

All MOT Stations must have an AED in place for when the authorised examiner goes on holiday, or leaves the premises for appointments.

The AEP (Authorised Examiner Principal), is a director of the company and is responsible for running the MOT side and be onsite at all times.

Also, at least one AEP MUST have been on the MOT Managers Course.

AEDM (Authorised Examiner Designated Manager), can nominate an AED (Authorised Examiner Delegate) for when they are on annual leave or away from the premises.

Becoming an MOT Manager

To become an MOT Manger it is not as difficult as you may think.

To succeed in becoming an MOT Manger, you must take an approved course, a MOT Test Centre Management.

The MOT Manager Training qualification, will be of interest to those individuals wishing to set up an MOT testing station, or who may already be an MOT Tester and wish to advance their career further.

What will the learner study as part of this qualification?

The content of this qualification has been designed to reflect the contents of the National Occupational Standards for MOT Managers.

The content covered includes:

  • Managing the legislative and compliance requirements of a VTS
  • Dealing with customer service problems and complaints
  • Developing and supervising staff within a test centre and test centre quality systems and audits.

This qualification is primarily developed for learners who wish to run an MOT Vehicle Test Station (VTS), or who will have direct responsibility for MOT operations at the VTS in the future.

How easy is the course?

The content of this qualification has been designed to cover the requirements for all prospective MOT Managers.

It is based on the suite of National Occupational Standards (NOS), developed by the Skills and Education Group in conjunction with DVSA and the MOT industry in 2015.

This qualification is subject to externally set, and externally marked assessment in the form of an online test delivered through the Skills and Education Group online testing platform.

Skills and Education Group, has therefore developed a bank of questions that will be randomly selected, to cover the knowledge requirements of the qualification.

The test consists of 35 questions, to be answered in 75 minutes and spans the breadth of the content for each of the units.

The Level 3 Management Course, is 24 hours in total, which is 2.5 days at our training centre in Bradford.

The guided learning hours is 16 hours.

Entry Requirements 

The entry requirements for this qualification, you don not require any previous qualifications.

As long as you have a good repute and you have your identification, you are eligible to take this course.
