
In the UK, DVSA provide a set of guidelines for all UK driving testers. It’s known as the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) rules.
Basically it makes sure that UK MOT testers are always up-to-date with changing laws, procedures and training.
CPD Training in UK is a mandatory requirement for all MOT testers.
All technicians must have an annual reassessment of knowledge. This is so that they remain competent in carrying out MOT tests.
All MOT testing garages must provide a quality of CPD training, that is at least equal to the UK National Standard for UK CPD training. Meaning that CPD training must be used by all UK MOT testers as a benchmark.
If the owners of the MOT testing stations fail to comply with these rules, then they will risk their MOT Testing station being closed down by DVSA .Which has occurred on many occasions. CPD Training in UK is not to be taken lightly!
Why is CPD Training Required?

CPD Training is a legal requirement for all MOT test garages that conduct tests on behalf of the Department of Transport, through the Vehicle Certification Authority (DVSA).
The Health & Safety Law, requires that everyone at work to carry out a risk assessment for any task they do as part of their daily.
When do you need to do the CPD Training?

The Annual CPD Training & Assessments are to be done from the 1st April to 31st March, which is to be done yearly.
It is an obligation by the DVSA, that all MOT Testers are to take the Training and Assessments.
If your CPD training it is not completed by, the 31st December, the DVSA can mark this down as an area that needs improvement.
Every MOT Testers must complete 16 hours in total of CPD Training and 5 assessments over a 5 year period.
You must do this annually and pass an assessment in order to keep your tester status.
What does the CPD Training consist of?

The CPD Training Course, consists of a 3 hour course, as well as an exam. The DVSA choose 3 topics and random categories/questions every year.
This Training has to be completed within the year (1st April 2022 – 31st March 2023).
The DVSA now demands a success rate of 80%.
