Everyone is wondering what hybrid vehicles will be available to buy in 2022-2023.
Many vehicle brands have announced their new hybrid vehicles.
In this article, you will be able to see what brands and models that will be available for you to purchase in 2022-2023 and the details of the vehicles.
Furthermore, you will have a better understanding of the different types of hybrids.
Hybrid Vehicles are not only the future but the present.
With manufactures working on hybrid vehicles to make them better and increase the travel range, more and more people are taking more of an interest and want to know what vehicles are or will be on the market.
Do you know what types of hybrids are available on the market?
If you don’t, then dive into this article and find out the four types of hybrid vehicles and what makes them unique from each other.
Mild Hybrids
Among the many hybrid vehicles, the ‘mild’ hybrid system is the latest technological innovation making waves in the hybrid world.
As the name suggests, the mild hybrids aren’t propelled on the electric power alone.
On the contrary, the electric system is used for boosting the petrol engine of the vehicle, used mostly while accelerating from a dead stop or removing the load of systems like air condition from the main engine.
The mild hybrids don’t need to be plugged in and normally come in the 48-volt variant.
The electric batteries recharge with a combination of power from regenerative braking and fuel engine.
The mild-hybrid systems have different names. Some of the common ones are eTorgue (Fiat/Chrysler), EQ Boost (Mercedes), and eAssist (General Motors).

Full Hybrids
The full hybrid type also comes with both electrical and fuel components. However, the full hybrid vehicle’s electrical engine can handle much more workload compared to the mild hybrid. These vehicles can even operate solely on electric power for some distance.
There are further two types of powertrains when it comes to full hybrid vehicles:
- Series Hybrid
- Parallel Hybrid
Series hybrid wheels power solely by the electric motor, while the fuel engine supplements the fuel engine like a generator.
In the series hybrid, the gasoline doesn’t power the wheels directly at all.
Parallel hybrid can be powered in the following three ways:
- By the engine directly
- Directly by the electric motor
- By both of the electric and gasoline systems together
With the hybrid technology advancing day by day, some of the hybrid vehicles operate as a combination of both the series and parallel types. The on-board computer system chooses an efficient operation way at any of the given ways.
The full hybrid vehicles charge the battery system just like the mild hybrids with the help of both the regenerative braking and fuel engine.
Plug-In Hybrids

All of the above-mentioned hybrid vehicles charge their batteries using internal means.
What sets the plug-in hybrids apart from these?
These hybrids can be charged both externally via chargers, as well as internally.
Consequently, the plug-in hybrids can go on the electric-only power for much greater ranges as compared to the full hybrids. These hybrids serve as a mid-way between fully electric and full hybrid vehicles.
Electric Vehicles coupled with Range Extender Hybrids.
While electric vehicles don’t come under the category of hybrids, some of these vehicles are equipped with a supplementary fuel engine that provides power whenever needed.
Electric vehicles are to be charged if it runs out of power, before it can run again and the range extenders then comes into action.
The range extender uses the fuel engine to power the electric motor or charges the batteries so that you don’t get stranded on the road. The size of the fuel engine decides how much range can be extended.
Upcoming Hybrid vehicles 2022-2023

⦁ Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid, has an EPA rating of 24 miles of electric range and 26 mpg as a hybrid after that.
⦁ Toyota Tundra Hybrid Pick Up, is a full size truck and has up to a 25 mpg rating and a 750 mile range.
⦁ Toyota RAV4 Prime, provides an EPA rating of 42 miles of all-electric range and 38 mpg as a hybrid.

⦁ Kia Sorento Plug-In Hybrid, has an EPA rating of 32 miles of electric range and a 79 mpg efficiency rating.
Discontinued Hybrids in 2022
Due to the governments plan, there has already been more than 20 vehicles that have been discontinued.
However, there will be more vehicles discontinued this year (2022).
These are the vehicles that will be discontinued in 2022;
⦁ Volkswagen Passat
⦁ Mazda 6
⦁ Mazda CX-3
⦁ Volvo V60 and V90
⦁ Toyota Land Cruiser
⦁ Honda Clarity
⦁ Hyundai Veloster
⦁ Polestar 1
