It’s that time of year again, when the full moon comes out and the spiders come out!
Don’t be fooled, as the cobwebs will appear before you know it!
Will you be Tricking or Treating this year?
MOT Testers Horrors
MOT Testers have horror stories to tell all year round.
However, this time of year, Halloween never seems to amaze the technicians.
Unfortunately, for them they have more tricks, than treats, like;
- Frankenstein Bolts
- Twisted Terrors
- Suspensions at Stake
- Witches Brew
The Gov.UK website, shares some of the scariest horror stories.
Would you like to see a magic trick?

Grab a flashlight and prepare to be scared. Because you could have the scare of the life when you check your vehicle.
Are you getting “goosebumps” ?
Follow these simple steps;
- Open your doors from the inside and outside of the vehicle. Ensuring that the bonnet and tailgate can be shut securely.
- Check that all the seats and seatbelts are securely fixed, including the clip/locking mechanism.
- Press your horn and check it is working and loud enough for anyone to hear.
- Look at all the mirrors and windscreen to check for any damages, including the rear-view mirror. Also check that the windscreen wipers are working.
- Turn on all your lights, including; headlights, tail lights, indicators, hazard lights, side lights, brake lights and rear fog lights. Are they all working?
- Go to your brake peddle and check that all the rubber is on the peddle and not worn.
- Get a 20p coin and now look at all your tyres and check your tyre tread. Can you see the outer band of the coin?
- One more step to go; Walk around the vehicle and check the bodywork, look for sharp edges caused by corrosion, or accident damage.
You are probably wondering, where is the magic trick?
Well, the magic trick is; you have just done your own MOT checks before it goes in for an MOT!
Remember, when checking your tyres with a 20p coin, if the outer band of the coin is visible, your tyre tread is too low and your tyres need to be replaced.
It’s always witchful thinking to do an MOT check yourself, prior to your vehicle going for its MOT. So, don’t be a lazy bone and leave it until your vehicle is due for an MOT.
May your Treats be many and your Tricks be few

Maintenance of an Electric Vehicle
There are three types of Electric Vehicles; Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid Electric and Fully Electric.
Hybrid Vehicles are either powered by fuel, or an electric motor. However, these two unique power sources, varies between models and manufacturers.
The relationship between the two have completely different mechanisms, which decides the nature of maintenance. Therefore, the maintenance of Hybrid Vehicles are entirely dependent on their engineering. In the majority of cases, Hybrid Vehicles don’t require any special kind of maintenance.
Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles, are similar to Hybrid Vehicles. But they also rely on fuel, or electric power. The electric part of the system, doesn’t require any special maintenance. However, the fuel engine must go through the checks.
Fully Electric Vehicles, are not powered by fuel or have combustion engines. They only rely on electric power for their propulsion. The electric systems or motors, are simple in their design and functioning, and free of complexity. These types of systems have less components to operate, unlike the primitive fuel combustion engines.
Beware and take care of your Electric Vehicle! These type of vehicles, also need to be looked after.
The maintenance of Electric Vehicles are simple and don’t need to be checked regularly. However, don’t be a lazy bones and not worry about checking your EV.
Demons are a ghoul’s best friend. Here are some tips on maintaining your EV;
- Battery – look for any errors on the dashboard or any malfunctioning
- Engine Inspection – check the engine oil for the level and the colour of the oil
- Symbols – be attentive to symbols on the dash
- Sounds- listen out for any abnormal sounds
- Brakes – make sure they are in working order and there are no strange noises
- Tyres – look at the thread of the tyres and ensure that the correct PSI is in the tyres
