Our Courses

MOT Training Course

The MOT Tester Course, Award in MOT Testing Class 4 and 7, replaces the Nominated Tester Training (NTT), which was formerly run by DVSA. The MOT qualification is for individuals who are serious about becoming fully qualified MOT Testers for cars and vans. This intensive MOT Tester Course, develops students skills around the MOT Testing Routine to help them become a Nominated Tester for classes 4 and 7. The students focus on; Working Safely within a Vehicle Test Centre, Working Relationships, Professional Development, Pre-Test Checks & The MOT Test. Using a blend of practical and theory based study, we make learning easy by putting in place meaningful assessments that reflect the demands of today’s competitive industry, giving the students a solid grounding in key principles and ideas.

Once they have completed the Award in MOT Testing Class 4 and 7, they then need to complete a VT8 Observation, which is the final step in their journey to become an MOT Tester and gain their MOT qualification.

MTC offers the students 2 options for the Award in MOT Testing Class 4 and 7 qualification:

A 4 Day MOT Tester Course + 2hr Practical Assessment (after 1-2 weeks).

A 4 Day MOT Tester Course + One to One Coaching & 2hr Practical Assessment.

Hybrid Courses

This course was developed for technicians, who are required to diagnose, remove, refit and repair Hybrid and Electrical Vehicle components. It follows the National Occupational Standard, at Level 3 and successful completion (via formal assessment). It also leads to a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification.

This training course enables students to recognise, evaluate, remove and refit Hybrid and Electric Vehicle components, as well as making the system safe. The students learn how to safely use a suitable multi meter, insulation tester, the oscilloscope and a diagnostic scan tool (DTC’s and Data Stream), as well as specialist safety equipment. They also access vehicle manufacturers’ information, as this is necessary to obtain accurate and safe repair operations.

MTC offer a range of Hybrid Course Levels.

The Level 1 Hybrid Electrical Vehicle Training, is to Raise Awareness of these types of vehicles.

The Level 2 Hybrid Electric Light Vehicle Training, is for scooters and mopeds.

We also offer a Level 2 Hybrid Electric Busses Training and a Level 2 Hybrid Electric HGV’s Training.

The Level 3 Hybrid Electrical Vehicle Training is for Cars.

The Level 1 and Level 2 Hybrid Courses are 2 day courses.

The Level 3 Hybrid Course is a 4 day course.

MOT Managers Course

The MOT Manager Training qualification, is of interest to individuals wishing to set up an MOT Testing Station, or who may already be an MOT Tester and wish to advance their career further. With this course the students get to understand how to manage the legislative and compliance requirements of a Vehicle Test Station (VTS). They will also learn how to deal with customer service problems and complaints within a VTS.

Furthermore, they will understand how to develop and supervise staff within a VTS. And last but not least, they will understand the Vehicle Test Station Systems and Quality Audits.

The MOT Manager’s course is now a requirement for all MOT stations, and is becoming more popular by the day.

This course is 24 hours in total, which we do in 2.5 days at our training centre in Bradford. The guided learning hours are 16 hours.

This qualification is subject to externally set and is an externally marked assessment, in the form of an online test delivered through the Skills and Education Group online testing platform.

Annual Assessment Training MOT

MOT testers are obligated to do a MOT Assessment Training every year, otherwise the MOT tester will be suspended. They must do this annually and pass an assessment between 1 April and 31 March every year to keep their tester status.

The Annual MOT Training Course is 3 hours in total. In the course the 3 main topics set out by DVSA is covered. The individuals then sit a test of 30 multiple-choice questions and this usually takes around 35 minutes.

VTAA Level 3

This course is to help technicians without a Level 3 qualification, to become qualified and to proceed onto the MOT Training Course. Furthermore, to show that the technician meets the Motor Vehicle Level 3 National Occupational Standards Motor Trade.

The VTAA accreditation, enables Motor Vehicle Technicians, who have worked in their roles for four or more years to prove their capabilities at Level 3. This course is a specifically designed accreditation and a lifetime achievement. Meaning, that once technicians have successfully completed the VTAA, they will be considered equivalent to those who have studied to Level 3 via a qualification route. The VTAA Course is 4 days. To complete the course, the technicians need to complete an online assessment and four practical assessments. Once the individual has completed the course, they are then able to go forward to sit the MOT Training Course.

2017 - 2019

MTC’s inception began in late 2017. The companies first objectives were to get their Training Centre approved and begin the marketing.

Our First Training Centre operated from, what can only be described as a shed in the middle of Bradford. MTC opened its doors to its very first clients in late 2017.

The Marketing.

MTC has always highly valued the power of the internet and what it can do it for a business. MTC thankfully has family members in the Tech industry. With this advantage, within a week the business had a website and a marketing strategy, combined with online advertising.

From then on, the company phone began to ring and courses were being booked in. Through 2017 and 2018 the business continued to increase their customer numbers. This then gave the opportunity for the company to invest in new equipment. As the months continued to gain more clients, it gave the owner new ideas on how to develop the courses and how to adapt them to the different learning needs. With doing this, the company gained repeated customers. Not only was the business having repeated customers, it also got recommended by the students to their friends and family members.

By the end of 2019 the business was succeeding. Week by week, the number of clients was increasing. The owner decided that, the company was at point where recruitment was needed, due to the high demand of the courses offered.

2020 - 2021

We Hired Our First Team Members

Michelle joined the company in early 2020 and what a fantastic addition to the team it was and still is.

We Hired Our Second Team Member

Next up, we hired our very own lecturer. Unfortunately, this time it didn’t work out quite as well as planned. The lecturer decided to leave the company for their own personal venture in another industry.

We Hired Our Third Team Member Martin.

With the growth of the business, the company was in need to replace the previous team member.

This is when Martin become one of the team. He has been training our customers since mid 2021. Michelle, the first team member was also trained up in this period and successfully gained her qualification to teach the MOT Managers Course and her own Custom Course.

Covid

The Dark Ages

The Covid Crisis, was tough on all businesses, but thankfully we had enough reserves to weather the storm.

Planning, Marketing and Trials

This period gave us a lot of time to fine tune our offering. We took advantage of this period and we took our first step into online training. Not only that, we also began Creating Video content to aid our courses. Due to the high volume of clients we were always to busy to get around to doing it, so the Covid crisis gave us the opportunity to put our plans into actions.

A lot of thought and creative discussions went on within the team at that period of time. As plans and decisions had to made for when times were uncertain. This was to ensure that the business could still operate and team members could continue working, if the crises became worse or if anything like this happens in the future.

2022

New Beginnings

Defiance….

A new year and with Covid numbers and fear in a drastic decline. MTC set its focus on becoming lean and efficient so that it could overcome any new obstacle in its path.

SEO and Marketing

Starting in 2022 MTC doubled down on its SEO (search engine optimisation) efforts. Our objective was to increase our traffic by 50% within the year.

By March 2022 we’d already doubled it!

We are very proud of our product and with more traffic we knew we’d sell more courses.

We also began emailing a weekly newsletter to great reception. Having over 2000 email records in our database, people began to book in more courses than ever before.

Software

We did a lot of planning over the 2021 Christmas break. In January 2022 we commissioned our very own bespoke training platform. MTC had wanted to introduce their own internally certified courses, which became increasingly popular and was being requested by our customers.

The training platform / CMS system now takes care of over 50% of the administrative tasks that were previously manual.

Advertising Goal

MTC advertising goal was to increase our CTR Click through rate, and pay less for paid advisement. After many adjustments, this achievement was finally met in July 2022. This resulted in advertisement costs being halved in price. With the reduced payment costs of advertising and the amount of course numbers continuing to rise, it became a successful goal.

2023

New Beginnings

By late 2023 MTC will be sold to new owners, allowing them to hopefully continue the hard work that it’s taken to become the highest rated Automotive training centre.

MTC Mobile Hybrid Training. was completed during Lockdown. MTC has a fully kitted out 7.5 Tonne Hybrid Training Centre, that has already been deployed several times. This allows students to do the Hybrid course at their place of work. We provide the full Hybrid Level 1, 2 and 3 Course including exams to certify the students at their workplace, which is ideal for a businesses that have a large workforce, that needs the qualification.

Location

MTC has been located in Bradford since the start. In that time, we have had three training Locations, all within a 500 yard radius of each other. We now reside and have done so for nearly 2 years, at The Old Boiler House, 2A Tong Street. Our location is next to a high traffic road, which provides easy access for our customers and a great deal of advertising opportunities.

Since 2022, MTC has invested more into promoting our training courses. This year the SEO team has used many methods to ensure that the business continues to grow and this has worked wonderfully, as more and more students have been booking courses.

Our SEO team also focused on articles and blogs to not only promote our courses, but also to give them useful information. By doing this, many people have took a great interest in our blog posts and it has gave them the incentive to book courses with us.

MTC uses Google Adwords for Pay Per Click. We believe that we pay the least for our targeted keywords. Due to our SEO strategy and marketing plan, costs have halved whilst still maintaining sales.

Offline Advertising

Advertising is fundamental in any business. MTC base has 2 large signs outside the base. The 7.5 truck that is used for Hybrid training at the students workplace is also signed.

MTC also has one car and a van which is also signed to promote the business. These are also included in the sale. On the plus side, the owner knows a sign maker, and his prices are very cheap!

DATABASE

Right from the start we’ve sought to increase our reach and our client database reflects this. 95% of the database could be considered a customer or a very warm lead.
